Yowie Baja Gets Some TLC

This week is the first week of school holidays and the Yowie is off the road and up onto stands for repairs. My previous post(Aug 21st) outlines an ongoing list of 30 items that need addressing. The most important being the first ten which are for reliability and safety. These required the car to come off the road for three or four days. So Friday afternoon I came home from work and got a start.

So far we have attended to moving the fuel tank, started on the brakes, removed the engine and started restoring the cooling system as well as about four other jobs such as the tail lights and wiring. It’s very important to replace the seatbelts and get the fuel tank out of the cabin and back into the front. As I cannot source a period (59/60′) tank I have a 65 tank that is a little too big. Mick came over yesterday and did a great job of building a bracket to support it above the original spot under the bonnet. See photos.

From time to time I have the webcam running on my progress. You can access the live feed via this link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/yowiecam

Special thanks needs to go to Paul for helping with some painting and cleaning of the brakes. Mick also came over Saturday evening and Sunday and welded up the frame for the tank. My darling wife also helped out by supplying lunch and keeping the kids at bay.

Some images as of this post. As you can see it’s all very muddy and needs a good clean. The motor tinware was full of holes and the fins chocked with mud and oil. Should run a lot cooler once back in with the stock cooling system refitted.
